It's Not that You Can't

I think I can I think I can't[Day104]*
I think I can I think I can't (Chapendra)

If I were to ask you right now to tell me something big and bold that you would like to do, you may think of some amazing ideas. Now go do them!

I can almost hear the words flowing in your minds, "But I can't!" But that's not it. And I can hear the wheels going again in your minds, "Yes that is it! I can't!"

With a little tough love, I would venture to say that in many cases it's not so much that you can't but either a) that you won't or b) that you feel you can't.

So what do I mean by this?

Sometimes there are things that part of you wants to do so much - but you're scared. Those what-ifs come to the fore. What if it doesn't work out? What if I fail? What if it's a waste of time and/or money?

And don't forget - it's hard. It can be challenging. It will take effort, sacrifice, and giving something up.

So instead of trying and risking "failure", maybe you just don't try, or you try halfway and then say, "Look! I told you so. I said I couldn't do it."

And you're sort of okay with that, at least for the moment, because you know deep inside that you could have done more or tried harder, and if you had really put in your full efforts, you might have succeeded.

But since there's a doubt, you'd rather think that you would have been able to do it instead of trying full out and risk not succeeding.

So it's not so much that you can't - more that you won't. More that you haven't fully made the decision to go for this dream, whatever it takes (all with integrity). More that you doubt your abilities and believe that maybe you can't, so why even bother.

Could you imagine what you would be able to do if you believed more in yourself and your ability to go for your dream and to handle whatever might arise along the way? Sure, it wouldn't all go smoothly, but do you believe that you could handle the bumps and twists in the road?

It wouldn't be a straight path, but are you prepared to go with the flow and be open to the possibilities that exist around you, maybe even many wonderful ones that you can't even imagine beforehand? Where are you keeping yourself stuck right now by telling yourself you can't?
