Gerald G Jampolsky is the author of one of the most inspiring self-help books I've ever read. The book is not very long, but the wisdom (and love) inside "Love is Letting Go of Fear" is truly inspirational. It both challenges you to see the love inside yourself, the love inside another, and to recognise the fear in both too.

I believe that IF you DO what Gerald Jampolsky suggests in his book then you will truly transform your life, and the life of those around you, for the better. And the Gerald G Jampolsky inspirational quotes I include in this article is a good example of how you can inspire your own greatness.

Most of us blame our limitations on others. Someone told us we couldn't do it, one time - maybe our parents or siblings, or maybe it was a teacher at school - and we continue to believe that we can't do it because of this. So we blame them for our limitations.

But the stark truth is, there is only one person to blame for our perceived limitations and that is OURSELVES - we are to blame! Admittedly, it doesn't help when someone tells you "you can't", especially when you're told this (or believe you've been told this) at an early age. But it is still an opinion, no more, no less.

So there is no doubt that, as an adult, when you think of doing something that you believe you can't do (examples in my case would be sing in front of people, do open mic stand-up comedy, even attempt to do Do-It-Yourself at home) then you usually don't do them.

And you don't do them, because YOU'VE limited yourself - you are your own worst critic; the voices of doubt you hear the loudest are the voices in your head; they are YOUR LIMITATIONS in YOUR MIND. So Gerald, in his simplicity, simply urges us to know our mind-made limitations and release ourselves from them. And we need no permission from anyone else first, to do this.

The naysayers (if they still exist) are simply projecting their own limitations on you. Ignore them. Even better, inspire them by your actions to shake off their limitations too. Loosening yourself from your limitations is a win-win game for all concerned...

What bigger self-imposed limitation can there be than the desire to be right. Or, rather - let's be accurate, here - the desire to NOT BE WRONG!

So powerful is the desire to not be wrong, that most of us are completely unaware that we even have it. But have it, we do.

When, for example, was the last time you actually admitted to being wrong? Was it proven beyond all reasonable doubt, first? And did you 'confess' to your 'crime' willingly or begrudgingly? (did you lose your temper, maybe?). Can you even admit, now, to yourself that you don't like being wrong?

Being right, or 'not being wrong' is a VERY powerful force in all of our lives, believe me. There are social statuses to uphold, our status at work could be under threat, our very existence as who we are, even, could be challenged IF we admit to being wrong. However, as Gerald again simply states it, this desire to 'not be wrong' is robbing you, and me, of our natural state of happiness.

So I simply ask you now, sitting there in front of your screen, would it be really be that terrible if you could even admit, right now, that you really don't like being wrong? "I don't like being wrong!" I wish it were not true, but it is.

As for you, a similarly honest answer to this question would be a start - a start at accessing the incredible and empowering happiness that is innate in all of us. Available once we release our need to be right. Available, too, once we relinquish our other limiting beliefs.

Changing Habits: What Keeps Me Stuck In Old Ways?

There are problems in my life that I have been conscious of for a very long time, but haven't yet found the capacity to fix. I reflect on these old ways and old patterns, and I can clearly see the unnecessary pain and suffering they have caused me. Yet I remain stuck in them.

Even while knowing they are wrong and ineffective, I keep doing them. Repeating them. Again and again. And each time the pain and suffering comes back. And I say to myself, "Okay, that's the last time. Fuck that. Never again. I've learned my lesson now."

But, for some odd reason, I do it again. And again. I act as if I enjoy the pain, even though I know I really don't. I act impulsively. Automatically. Like a programmed robot with no sense of choice.

These patterns in my life seem to be really sticky. They are deeply rooted. I've thought of countless ways I can try to correct them, but my efforts have so far remained fruitless. It is almost as if there is another part of me that I can't change. And perhaps there is.

But that's not going to stop me from trying. Not yet at least. Maybe I need to dig deeper. Maybe I need to ask myself better questions. Maybe I need a new perspective. Maybe I just need to be more patient. Maybe I just need more experience. Maybe I need to "just do it" and habituate myself to failure until it means nothing anymore.

If there is a solution, then I know that it's going to take some time, effort, and dedication. I'm well aware of the myth of overnight success, and as a 22 year old I don't expect to have everything work out my way all of a sudden.

Upon reflection, I've noticed that there are some things I need to consider about these "old ways" (ways that seem so persistent throughout my life), and how these relate to personal development more broadly.

I CAN ONLY FOCUS ON ONE MAJOR CHANGE AT A TIME

Not only can I not change everything overnight, but I also can't change multiple things all at the same time. Making a conscious change in your life takes up physical and mental resources. The more resources you allocate to one conscious endeavor, the less you can allocate to another.

Trying to change everything all at once is only going to spread your resources too thin - and then nothing will get accomplished. Therefore, it is important to focus on only major change at a time.
"We do not grow absolutely, chronologically. We grow sometimes in one dimension, and not in another; unevenly. We grow partially. We are relative. We are mature in one realm, childish in another. The past, present, and future mingle and pull us backward, forward, or fix us in the present. We are made up of layers, cells, constellations" - Anais Nin.
We are multi-faceted beings. Therefore, simple solutions (while desirable) aren't always the correct ones. Occam's razor says, "Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler."

It's good not to over-complicate our problems, but at the same time we can't ignore the details of our plights if we truly want to get to the root of them. If we think too simply, then we won't develop the proper focus to overcome our bad habits.

The truth is our life can be broken down into many different components:

* Health
* Relationships
* Career
* Finances
* Education
* Psychology
* Religion/spirituality

Sure, they are all intertwined and interrelated. For example, working on your health may increase your confidence and self-esteem, and that can then spill over into your relationships and career. But it is important that you don't try to conquer the whole world all at once.

If you are the kind of person who has never went to the gym on a regular basis, then you should really just focus on that for your first 2-5 weeks until it becomes a more common habit. Once that becomes more second-nature and automatic, then you can shift your consciousness to other aspects of your life that you want to adjust. This basic rule applies to any kind of habit change.

The point is that you go step-by-step, building yourself bolt-by-bolt, and not trying to transform yourself in one desperate swoop.

Again, these things take time, effort, and dedication. Personal development is an ongoing process with no clear beginning or end. Often you just have to take life one step at a time, because any other way will just get you flustered and frustrated.

LESSON: Some aspects of my life have been relatively "stagnant," because I've been busy focusing on other aspects of my growth.

This is one reason I am still stuck in some old ways.

However, I can try to better overcome these old ways by focusing on them on a 1 to 1 basis. It's OK to put some goals on the back-burner while I work on others, because working on them all at once would spread my physical and mental resources too thin.

Self-Blame Or Personal Responsibility?

We're encouraged to take personal responsibility to empower ourselves. It does feel good, doesn't it? I admit it can be scary, but the strength of it feels great. When I'm taking responsibility for my life and there's a problem, I'm in charge of the solution. It's my choice. Since I like being in charge, that's good news to me.

Plus I don't have to wait for somebody else to change, or for a circumstance to change - none of which I can control. So I vote YES on taking personal responsibility.

But in the process of doing that, self-blame can creep in. Without me even noticing. So what? you might ask. Isn't that part of taking responsibility? Isn't that a good thing? My answer to both questions is a large NO. Because it's just not constructive to blame yourself. In fact, it can keep you seriously stuck.

Self-blame says:
  • I need to fix myself
  • I need to punish myself in some way
  • I need to regret what I did
Since I'm not sure how long these things take, or when I'm finished, I could stay here a long time. I keep telling myself, "I should know better. I shouldn't have done that. If I scold myself enough, maybe it won't happen again", etc. And while I'm blaming myself, it keeps me in a looking-back position - focused on the past. Also an unhelpful place to hang out. I'm speaking from plenty of personal experience here.

On the other hand, taking responsibility simply requires me to see my part in what's going on. I can do that honestly AND without self-blame. So first I take a close look. Then I just ask myself: Do I want to change something? If so, what are some options? What action do I need to take to change things? This keeps me in a looking-forward position - focused on the future - instead of looking back with regret, remorse or self-blame. And that looking forward draws me ahead in the direction I want to go.

Say "I Can" Now And Fill In Your Blank

Are you like millions of other people in the world today that needs to get permission?

Permission to be happy
Permission to be successful
Permission to be wealthy

Who is going to give you permission to do any of these things? Most people are so busy just taking it for them self. You need to give your self permission to have all of those things by using the two most powerful words in the world.

When a desire is added to the end of these two words if forms a complete sentence. These two words need to be heard and repeated over and over again. We need to use these two words every day in place of some other words that are less positive.

These two words "I CAN" are the two most empowering words that your ears can hear you say.

Why is it so important to hear I CAN?

I can be happy
I can be successful
I can be wealthy

Yes you can be all of these things. Give your self permission and take action. When you become truly aware that all we see is the human form however, what lies under that are cells and tissues that get broken down into smaller and smaller parts until we are just atoms.

Little energetic atoms vibrating and moving at the speed of light, all contained by the field of our body. The slightest movement or sound effects the speed of the vibration just like your thoughts affect your mood.

If your pool of energy was a pond with a mirror finish, calm and beautiful And you threw in a rock, what do you suppose would happen? There would be a splash and then several ripples that gravitate out in a circle and affect all of the water around it.

When we raise our vibration it works just like that rock. It spreads a circle and effects all of the vibrations around it. Vibrations from other humans, animals, plants and the entire universe.

The two words I CAN have the capability of raising your vibration so much that you will notice a change in your world. A positive feeling of energy that is so strong that it just makes you feel good.

That feeling that you get of feeling so good is absolutely addictive. You will never want to go back to the way you felt before!

I know you can, now you just need to know you can.

This is another reason why people fail most of the time. Instead of looking after their own faults, they get busy in pointing fingers on others. Criticism is nothing but a total wastage of time when done and aimed on others; avoid this, concentrate on your own faults and the duties to overcome them.

9. Habit of quitting before the game is over
In this world, we are only the players; we don't make all the rules all the time. And this is why we can't determine who is going to make it or else is going to break it. So, how can we run away before it is all over? Without focusing on the results, it is better to keep on playing as long as the game lasts.

Once you get your budget under control and have a good understanding of your expenses, then you can begin setting a little aside into a savings account that will help you meet your longer term goals.

3. Set both short term and long term goals. Your long term goal is the big picture, the ultimate result that you are hoping to achieve. But, sometimes this overall goal can seem overwhelming, especially if your finances are a mess. In order to be successful, break this larger goal into smaller 'short term goals' that are more attainable and will make you feel like you are reaching important milestones along the way. For example, your long term goal may be to become completely debt free, but this can seem like an enormous task. To make things simpler, set a shorter term goal of paying off one credit card by a certain date, so that you feel like you have accomplished something toward your bigger dream.

4. Put your goals on paper. Writing your goals down is a way of clearly defining them so that you know what you want to achieve and can monitor your progress to increase your chance of success. Put a copy of your goals where you can see them and read them regularly, maybe even including pictures of what you are hoping to purchase when you become debt free. Putting your goals on paper is a way of making a commitment and creates accountability, especially if you share your goals with family and friends. It makes the plan clear, gives you direction, and will help you stay on track.

5. Make sure your goals are specific. Many times people fail because their goals are too broad or too general. It is important to know exactly what you are wanting to accomplish so that you know when you have reached your goal. For example, don't say, "I want to save money this month", but rather, "My goal is to save $200 this month." Make sure your goals are realistic. Long term goals may seem overwhelming, but you should be confident that your short term goals are attainable. If your monthly budget will not allow you to save $200 then it would be counterproductive to set this goal. If it is not reasonable, you are setting yourself up for failure before you even begin.

Finally, your goals should be simple. If they are too complex, you are more likely to give up. For example, if you are wanting to save $200, purchase a new washing machine, and make a double payment on your credit card, you will probably put yourself under a lot of stress. By setting a simple goal, or choosing one thing to focus on at a time, you will know how to concentrate your efforts and will be more likely to succeed. Remember, success is a step by step process and you can do anything if you approach it one step at a time.

6. Write down the benefits of your goal. The purpose of money goals is to help you achieve the financial future of your dreams, but getting from where you are to where you want to be is not always easy. By reminding yourself of the benefits, you will be able to persevere through the sacrifices, setbacks, and discouragement you may face along the way.

7. Identify the obstacles of your goals. Often people give up before they realize success because they are not prepared for the difficulties they may encounter. Remember, changing your financial future can be a big task and requires both discipline and patience. By being aware of some the obstacles you might face, you can come up with a plan that will help you overcome so that you are not distracted from your goal.

8. Outline a plan of action. Once you have determined your goals, you must come up with a plan to achieve these goals. Simply knowing your goal is not enough. Many people don't realize their dreams because they never take the steps necessary to make their dreams a reality. Your goal will help you define your course of action and come up with strategies that will turn your ideas into something reachable and attainable.

Remember, your goals are specific so your plan of action should also be specific, with reasonable time limits, measurable results, and clear steps. Design savings and spending plans, outline direction for each day, week, or month, and make sure that your spouse or other family members living in your home understand the plan and their role in it.

9. Educate yourself. Educating yourself on money management and smart investments will give you control over your money and allow you to secure both your future and your retirement. Consult a financial adviser, talk to successful friends, read books, or take courses. By setting educational goals you are preparing yourself to make wise choices in any financial climate and ensure that your money is always working to your advantage.

10. Make sure you have support and accountability. Setting money goals is only the first step - achieving those goals takes a lot of hard work and discipline. To increase your chance of success you should enlist the help of family, friends, or a professional who can help keep you accountable and encourage you throughout the process. They will also be able to help you evaluate your progress and point out any areas where you may be going off track.

Goal setting is the first step to success in any area of your life. By learning how to set money goals you will gain control of your life and be able to secure the future of your dreams.

Focus Is Like A Magnifying Glass

At a recent seminar, a successful women, Louise Taylor, said: "Focus more on your desire than on your doubt, and the dream will take care of itself. You may be surprised at how easily this happens. Your doubts are not as powerful as your desires, unless you make them so." How does that resonate with you?

Let me talk a bit about focus here, because once you understand what it is you may want to pay more attention to it.

Remember when you were younger, and playing with a magnifying glass you parents let you have, you either burnt leaves, or you burnt a hole in your pants, which did not make your parents happy, then again THEY gave you the magnifying glass in the first place, right, so what was their problem, or you might even have burnt yourself a blister on your skin.

How does that work?

Simple, the energy of the sun is all around us, even on cloudy days, yet when you harness this incredible power, it becomes white hot and it can burn anything, the more you harness it the more and faster it burns.

Hmm, interesting. Did you know that you have that very same energy at your disposal to use for your own good, that it is inside of you, all the time, 100% present? Bet you never thought of that before, you are energy, the same energy that can be turned into anything you can possibly think of.

This is part of your thought process, energy IS your thought. Thinking is creating pictures of what you want in your life. The more you think about it or focus on these pictures, the more your picture becomes clear and the more you attract it to you.

The more intense your focus, the bigger the attraction-factor. So, if you want something really bad, think about it constantly, every single second of the day. See yourself already in the possession of it, and experience how good that feels. Feeling is energy as well, created by your thoughts, your thoughts create any vibration you choose, we call that feeling. So think well, and feel well as a result of it.

Keep doing this all day long and watch what happens. You will amaze yourself. Things will go better for you and you will feel better about how well things work for you, it's like a ping-pong game, or like a computer - good information in, good information out, garbage in, garbage out.

PS: The same applies to something you definitely do NOT want in your life - like debt or breast cancer - the more you focus on it, the more you attract it! Think about THAT next time you watch TV and see all those ads flying by about pills for diseases - what do you think that does for you? It simply keeps the awareness of attracting it to you alive, constantly. Do you really want any of those diseases? Just focus on your DESIRES!!!!! Think about it.

If you read and talk about personal development too much, then it can begin to turn into a kind of mystical abstraction. The more you try to intellectualize about it, the further away your goals seem to become.

This is why you should view your personal development as a "practice-based philosophy." The very nature of the subject "personal development" requires that you are capable of putting your values, beliefs, and ideas into action. Action is the primary requirement. Without action, you're in a place of personal stagnation.

Have you ever heard of a "keyboard jockey?" A keyboard jockey is an individual who spends more time typing on their computers about how to do something than actually practicing it in the real world. It's a term that first became popular in the Pick-Up Artist (PUA) community.

Whether or not you agree with PUAs, they were right on this one. They understood that in order to learn something, or get better at it, you need to go out into the "field" and practice it.

Michael Jordan didn't become a professional basketball player by reading books about basketball. Gary Vaynerchuk didn't become a Wine expert by reading books about wine. And Style didn't become a Pick-Up Artist by reading books about seduction.
    Nothing can replace practice and personal experience.
So what happens when we don't practice and just theorize?

Paralysis by Analysis

In effect, we begin to think about a situation so much that we actually inhibit ourselves from ever taking action. We get an idea for a new business, then the very next day we think of 2 or 3 other possibilities. Eventually, our list keeps piling up, but we never follow through on any of them.

Paralysis by analysis is especially prevalent in today's world because we have so many damn choices. There are so many different foods to eat, girls to date, careers to choose, places to see, music to listen to, etc. Sometimes there are so many possibilities that we don't know where to start. So we just do nothing. We become so overwhelmed by the amount of choices we have that we'd rather not make a decision. Perhaps it's because the "opportunity cost" of missing out on all those decisions is too much for us to bare.

The more we ruminate on our options, the more likely we are to suffer paralysis by analysis. This is one very obvious way that too much theorizing can greatly inhibit our personal development.

Goals become more clear and vivid when we begin working toward them

Often we don't really know what we want (let alone how to get it) until we get a taste of it. This is why experimenting with new experiences can be so beneficial. Sure, we may have some rough moments along the way, but that will just give us an even better idea on what we want and don't want out of life.

Sometimes it's better to let the bad things happen rather than keep theorizing and worrying about them inside your head. You may find:
  • It wasn't as bad as you thought it would be
  • You gain experience and learn from it in a way you never could just by thinking about it
  • You build resilience - "what doesn't kill you often makes you stronger"
  • You develop a deeper understanding of your preferences and values
Now, I'm not saying we should act recklessly without any sense of caution, but I do think that often the things we worry about are more harmless than we make them out to be.

Beliefs Should Be Practical and Flexible

Beliefs are only as valuable as they are practical. You can theorize about alternative universes and multiple Gods all you want, but if you have no access to the truth, and it has no bearing on how you act on a daily basis, it shouldn't really matter (at least not from a personal development perspective).

Sure, it may be fun to think about all these unknowns, and it may even make us more critical thinkers, but if these questions begin taking up too much energy and time, then it is probably best to re-focus on more practical matters. Focus on the ideas that bring you results and ignore abstract matters which are often inconsequential.

I recall the earlier years of my conscious pursuit for personal development. I began to become really infatuated with Buddhism, eastern philosophy, enlightenment, and seeking an "absolute truth" about the nature of reality and consciousness.

I would go to my universities libraries and take out books on all kinds of stuff, not excluding astral projections, the afterlife, paranormal activity, philosophy of mind, etc. It was a long and tiresome journey, and nothing very fruitful came out of it. I eventually had to abandon the pursuit, accepting the fact that there are some things I don't know and can't know, and those things aren't worth obsessing over.

Since then it feels as though a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. Being able to accept that you "don't know and can't know" everything is one of the most liberating feelings in the world.

It's also the best reason to keep your beliefs flexible. It would be pretty presumptuous to think you can discover (and settle) for a few beliefs and principles and live your whole life in accordance to them. The universe is way too complex and humans are all too fallible for us to base all of our decision-making on a few static principles.

That's not to say we should abandon all principles and values, only that it is important not to be bounded by them when they no longer apply. That is the big idea behind being ground in practicality vs. being grounded in theory.

You may make it a general principle "not to kill others," but if you find yourself in a situation where someone was attacking you, then you may be willing to kill them in self-defense. In the same way, there are situations I may not even be able to imagine where I may need to compromise, adjust, or abandon certain values depending on the circumstances.

I want to finish by saying I believe choosing practice over theory also opens us up to more possibilities and more freedoms. Being completely fixed on our principles makes us stubborn and narrow-minded. But giving ourselves the flexibility and freedom to adapt to our surroundings allows us to navigate throughout life much more effectively.

Making Affirmations Work For You

Many folks are curious about how affirmations work or why they seem to work for some people and not others. The funny thing is that we all use affirmations all the time. What you experience depends on what you affirm all day.

The word affirmation refers to a statement that one accepts as reality. The statement could be good or bad. If you often say things like: "I never have enough money," it's more than likely that you don't have enough money now. Persisting to hold this affirmation in your consciousness will lead to you not having enough in the future either. Your subconscious is now programmed to seek and enter into situations that make this statement true.

Most of us hold more negative beliefs than positive because our parents, churches, and schools didn't impress upon us how important our words really are. It's time for us to teach ourselves how to be more conscious of carefully constructing our beliefs by making affirmations work for us and not against us. After all, you create your reality by what you believe. So it is in your best interest to change your negative beliefs into positive ones!

So how can you make affirmations work for you specifically? Well, affirmations work through your constant use of and belief in them. So there are a couple things to consider when going about making affirmations work for you. You need to examine what you have been taught about affirmations and what you believe. This process can be tricky because often we aren't aware of the hidden beliefs that are stored in our subconscious.

Not only are we not aware of some of our negative beliefs, we often have forgotten where they originated. This makes these beliefs more of a challenge to identify and change. But you can do it! People who say affirmations don't work are approaching them with the wrong mindset and more than likely not using them correctly. A good friend of mine had picked up the belief that using positive affirmations meant you believed in magic in the supernatural sense. It wasn't until he understood that using affirmations was a way to focus and train a natural mental process, that he became open to using them and experiencing their benefits.

You first task is to identify any negative beliefs or statements about affirmations or related subjects that you have been exposed to. Then you must work on releasing them. Create or look up a release affirmation. "I now release all negative thoughts about positive thinking exercises. I now know using positive affirmations will benefit me" is a general one you can try. But it is best to name the specific negative thought in the release affirmations. Writing, singing, chanting, and visualizing, are among the popular methods of repeating affirmations to retrain your negative thinking.

You can use one of these methods to change your thinking about positive affirmations themselves. The more quickly you change your core beliefs about using affirmations the more quickly you can use them to change other areas of your life. So you should find a method of using positive affirmations that helps you to use them several times throughout your day. The more you use them throughout your day, the more your subconscious will begin to accept them as true.

The mind is a powerful tool that greatly determines the direction one's life takes. It is evident that those who continuously focus their minds on the negative have their lives heading in the wrong direction. On the other hand, those who purposefully choose to focus on the positive empower their lives for good things. This factor is especially tested when things may not seem to be heading in the direction that you desire. It is during these moments that you can use your mind power to either get out of the situation successfully or be brought down by it.

Perseverance is a term that many people do not like to hear. With this present age, the temptation of having a quick fix to all matters has made it difficult for some to patiently wait for a desired goal. Those interested in unlocking their mind power, need to incorporate this important entity in all that they do. The power of the mind cannot be exhausted. Personal Development, The Importance Of Investing In Yourself

Personal development is the key to free yourself from mediocrity. Your current level of thinking has created your current situation, so if you want to change your situation, you have to change your mindset.

Before you can change your mindset, you have to be willing to immerse yourself in various forms of personal development everyday. Personal development is not something that you do once, you can't go to one seminar and expect your mindset to be changed forever, no matter how good the speaker is. If I had a dollar for every person that said, personal development "yeah I did that once" I would be rich. There are a few common traits of people that truly get great results from personal development.

These are: They will listen to audio material when they don't feel like listening to it, they will read when they would rather watch TV and they will set their alarm 15 minutes early to rewrite their affirmations everyday before work.

I'm sure you have all heard that success is a decision. The same applies to changing your mindset. It is as simple as making the decision that I am committed to my future therefore I will be consistent with my personal development.

Below are a few different ways you can apply personal development to your life. It is recommended that you partake in all forms but obviously some more that others.

Affirmations

Developing a positive mindset is one of the most powerful life strategies there is. By using affirmations, what you are effectively doing is changing your self image using the power of auto suggestion. The aim is to use present tense incorporating powerful positive thinking techniques, positive affirmations and visualizations, it is possible to convince yourself that you are who you say you are.

We can all use affirmations on personal level, but it is also extremely beneficial from a professional and business stand point. Using these techniques consistently will transform your life, your health and passion for life. Your friends and associates will comment on the changes they noticed in you and on how positive you are.

Some tips for affirmations

Affirmations are essential in changing you self image to allow you to grow in to a leader and person of influence. Affirmations should be done daily in the morning before you head to work and I also like to record my affirmations on my phone so I can play it back throughout the day.

Some Points to remember: Keep them short 1-2 lines is plenty

-Have a page of these bullet point affirmations and rewrite them daily for 21 days.
-Keep them positive, avoid using: don't, not, wont, etc
-They must be in the present tense, you should write your affirmations as if you already had all of these qualities.
- To help you create some affirmations, look at three or four people that you respect and admire. List ten qualities that they have that you would like, and develop your present tense affirmations around them.

Audio

Audio is a vital component of your personal development plan. Everyone has heard of the power of association which is exactly what audio is. When your driving around in your car, instead of being frustrated by peak hour traffic you can be listening to some of the most powerful, big thinking minds in the world. That is worth so much more than what you may first think. What I mean is, if you listen to only half an hour of audio per day, over the course of a year that is 182.5 hours of associating with big thinkers. Do you think that may do something change your mindset? Of course it would, and a point to make is that consistency is the key here.

Sign Up For Blogs

Signing up for great quality blogs is an excellent way to keep your attitude in tact. A blog on a social media site is a great way to be drip fed positive and motivating quotes, affirmation and posts. These blogs are also a great way to network with like minded people. If you are using Linkedin or Facebook it is recommended that you also add value to the group or page by contributing your own posts. This will show that you are actively interested in other peoples thoughts and discussions, not just wanting to push your business or thoughts on people.

Seminars

In a nutshell, seminars are so powerful because of the power of association. It has been said that you can figure out someones annual income by averaging out the income of their five closest friends. If this is the case, doesn't it make sense to associate with wealthy, big thinking people? If you spend your time associating with these solution orientated people, then you can't help but be positively effected by them.

If I could give you any advice at all, it would be to mirror how these people think, act, walk and talk. Choosing the right seminars to go to is also important. Some seminars are extremely cheap but are still unbelievable for motivation, inspiration and association. However these cheap seminars are often tied in with network marketing companies. The mindset you need to have when it comes to seminars is, its not what the seminar costs that is important, it is what it will cost you by not going.

Paying $12,000 for a five day seminar may seem excessive but the information you will come away with will impact your life forever. Only if you take action that is! The volumes of people that go to seminars and then two weeks later cannot remember what it was about are the ones that will never exceed in life. You need to be taking notes on what the speakers say and then work out how you are going to apply this to your life.

Mentoring

A mentor is not only someone that can teach you how to do particular things, but is also someone who can hold you accountable to your dreams or goals. Your mentor will be someone who you look up to and someone who you can go to for advice. A mentor may not always be a person that you can personally contact, they may be an author or just part of an education program. Having a mentor is extremely important for success in all areas of life as we can learn from their mistakes and follow their lead to prevent us getting distracted from our goals.

My advice is to find a mentor in your chosen field but to do this you need to ask yourself a few questions first. If you look at their life as a whole (health, money, assets, social life, family life, business achievements) do they have the result you want? This is the most important question you can ask your self, as an employer may have a nice house, car and big pay check but do they spend time with their family or are they always stuck at the office? Get these questions and answers clear in your head before choosing a mentor.

Books

Basically books are positive self talk. Think about it, who's voice are you listening to when you read? Yours I hope. The greatest minds in the world convert their thoughts and knowledge into books. Books are generally inexpensive and can be referred to when ever you feel like. I'm sure you have heard that "readers are leaders" and this is so true because reading is food for the soul, it allows us time to analyze what we have just read. We can take notes as our minds are opened to possibilities we may have otherwise have never thought of. Reading stimulates our imagination.

Goals in life are important. They motivate us to try harder, to keep on going when times are hard and they inspire us to dig deep and improve. But often goals incorporate several different factors in order to achieve true success. They can require various areas of our lives to co-operate.The ultimate goal for many people is, on reflection, to be happy.

Let's look at what your goals are and what they entail.

- Money is often equated with success as it is often the result of effort, improvement and accomplishment. Often, though, the more we earn the more freely we enjoy spending; improving our home, car, lifestyle. Then follows the pressure to maintain that level of earning. It is often extremely expensive to maintain living to a certain style and that in itself can become a goal. Simply to continue earning the money to maintain the lifestyle that we originally aspired to.

Many people become disillusioned with the lack of happiness and satisfaction that monetary success brings. It is not uncommon for people to walk away from high income jobs in an attempt to find satisfaction and fulfillment in other ways.

Goal Setting - Not Just Any Kind of a Goal Will Do

It is obvious that if you want to achieve something worthwhile in your life, you need to have goals. Then, on the other hand, you will also need to be careful on how you set your goals.

"The first thing is to decide: What do I want? When the goal is well-formed it is easier to get started to fulfill it." - Terttu Gronfors & Trygve Roos

How do I form my goals, then? What is a well-formed goal? There are five basic principles on how a well-formed outcome should be like:
  1. Stated in the positive
    • Say what you want and not what you don't want. In other words - describe the desired state that you want to be in when you get there.
    • Our subconscious mind can't deal with the word "no". If you say to yourself "I don't want to be fat", your subconscious mind skips the word "don't" and instead it hears "I want to be fat." It only understands the outcome, which is "fat."
    • Therefore, you should set you your goal, for example, as: "I want to be lean. I want to see my six-pack abs," or something similar.

  2. Initiated and maintained by the individual
    • Is your goal within your own control? If it isn't, how can you make it happen? Probably you can't!
    • You have to make it so that you are the controlling power in initiating and maintaining the process of getting there.

  3. Sensory specific
    • Visualize how will it look like, sound like and feel like when you have reached your goal? Go in your mind to that moment when you have reached your goal. Be there fully as it is really taking place.
    • Also, put a specific date on your goal. Give yourself enough time to reach it, but not too much. You want it to be a challenge, but still a reasonable challenge (if on that date you still have not reached your goal, don't change the goal, give it a new date and continue to work your way towards it).

  4. Ecology check
    • Ask yourself: "Is this good for me and for the important people in my life (family, colleagues etc)?" and "is it going to violate the rights of others?" If the answer to the first question is "yes" and to the second question "no", then you are on the right track
    • Also ask: "How will getting this positively affect and influence my life?" and "is there anybody in my environment who can help me?"

  5. Testable
    • How do you know that you have reached your goal? What specific thing(s) will happen when you reach it? How will other people know that you have reached it?
    • What difference will it make in your life to reach this goal?
