Life, as most everyone has learned, is filled with one challenge after another. Overcoming obstacles is something that you have to do every now and then to progress properly in life.
The problem is, most people cringe at the thought of having to do so. Many look at this necessity of life with great foreboding, and sometimes, even outright fear. But is taking on life's challenges really an impossible task?
The answer is a loud and resounding "no." It isn't. It is perfectly doable, and this idea of it being impossible is just a lame excuse to avoid responsibility. The task is not the one trying to intimidate you. You are the one trying to intimidate yourself.
When overcoming obstacles, the first thing you should think of is that you can do it, no questions asked. Start the process off on a bold and positive note. The second thing you should do is acknowledge that there is no room for runners-up or consolation prizes when you take on challenges. You either win, or you don't. This thinking will not only bolster your optimism, but it will make you feel braver.
Of course, once you actually start the process of conquering a trial, there may be times when things appear really tough. There may be times when it would seem only natural to feel frustrated, maybe even defeated. Be that as it may, this is just part and parcel of overcoming obstacles, and in no way should these moments consume you entirely.
Once you start to feel overwhelmed, shake the feeling off. Think about your goal. Remember that the challenge is a win-or-lose situation. You can do it, and whatever difficulties lie in your path mean absolutely nothing.
The most successful men and women throughout history embraced a go-getter mindset. Thomas Edison didn't invent the light bulb lackadaisically. Alexander the Great wasn't insecure about conquering lands.
Martin Luther King, Jr. didn't stir a cultural revolution just by sitting and whining all day. If there's one thing these people have in common, it's their belief that overcoming obstacles is not an impossible task. In fact, it is far from one.
So, stop psyching yourself out. If you find yourself in a sticky situation, take the time to think about why the situation is difficult. Isn't it difficult just because you thought it was? Time, in the end, is better spent enacting solutions rather than fiddling your thumbs and knotting your brow.
