A lot of people lead lives they are not satisfied with. Everywhere you go, you'll always find someone making statements about how life is filled with boredom and monotony. In fact, you hear it so often that you'd think it was a norm that people just have to accept. But this is far from the truth. Life doesn't have to be dreary.

It's just that most people find it easier to complain about life than to do something about it. If you're a person who's ready for a meaningful life, read on. Here's a short guide that can help you find your passion, because the first step in this process is discovering what you're passionate about.

1. Ask the Right Questions

Have you ever stopped to ask yourself, "What do I want out of life?" A lot of people, even as adults, are still uncertain about what they really want. That's okay. It takes time before a person can answer life's biggest questions. But the first step on your journey towards a meaningful life has to begin with asking the right questions. If you really want to find your passion, you have to be ready to face difficult questions.

2. Overcome Self-Doubt

Some people are fortunate enough to have discovered early what they are truly passionate about. They asked the right questions early, and have spent enough time contemplating on it to come up with a decisive answer. Unfortunately, finding what one is passionate about is not the same as being able to do it.

A person can have a passion for singing without ever trying to have the life of a singer. Self-doubt is a dangerous obstacle. If you want to find your passion you have to overcome self-doubt and believe in yourself. Too many people have self-sabotaging habits that prevent them from living a meaningful life. Don't be one of them.

3. Look for Inspiration

Nobody's perfect. As much as you try to be confident in yourself, you will sometimes encounter discouragement and doubt. Don't let this stop you. Inspiration can be found in many places. One way to increase morale is to read about people who have lived a meaningful life.

The people who have succeeded before you may have encountered the same difficulties that you have. Learning about their setbacks and how they have overcome them will help you handle your own setbacks and encourage you further to find your passion.

4. Understand Your Own Motivations

The Greek philosopher Socrates often told his students to, "Know thyself." That's one of the most important principles in living. Too many people fail to understand their own motivations. They can't tell the difference between liking their job and liking their salary. If you want to find your passion, you have to understand your own motivations.

From time to time ask yourself why you are doing what you are doing. Are you working for that company because you like the job, or because it's near your house? Did you transfer to another college because they had better courses, or because your friends went there?

Learning about your own motivations can help you discover whether what you're doing is a relevant step towards a meaningful life, or an unnecessary and fleeting distraction.

5. Do Not Be Discouraged

Not everyone will understand your passion. A lot of people will try to discourage you. The hardest part about this is that some of our biggest detractors will be our loved ones. A father who has been a businessman all his life may not be able to understand why his son wants to be a creative writer.

What you see as a meaningful life, may be viewed as folly by another. Just don't let it affect you. Just smile and thank them for their opinion.

Money can be earned. Things lost can be replaced. Relationships can be built and rebuilt. New friends can be found. The only thing in the world you can't regain once it's lost is time. Make the most out of the limited time you have. Find your passion. Once you do, you can start doing what you love and living a meaningful life.
